Sharpie Mod Problems

So I recently did the sharpie mod and it didnt turn out so well the left side of my radio doesnt light up but it still works. Also i put that film over the display and all it did was change the color to purple. I made sure all the clear parts where covered well and some of it turned out all right. Can anyone Help me.
