Aftermarket Automatic Shift Knob

I bought a Ractive t style shift knob for my balt and found it needs an adaptor to fit the shaft. Seems like the Ractive piece is for a 1/2" shaft and the balts is maybe 3/8".

Someone suggested to me using a piece of dowel and/or pipe to make a diy adaptor, any other thoughts or tips?

Buy a shift knob and adapter it comes with from sickspeed.com...

Mine was Peral blue before I decided to paint it.
