what is a good way to cover the holes? bondo?

I'm pretty sure they sell caps. That'ss what I would do. Or buy a Wingless trunk. I wouldn't use putty unless you know what you're doing

I bondo and painted the whole trunk. Not a fan of those plugs! Even if you change your mind ( I can never guess why) all you have to do is look under the trunk and the template for the holes are there!

ya I just found a wingless trunk for cheap so I'm going to hit it with a black and make it look sexy with my sunburst orange Balt
