"W" Shaped Brake Shoe Spring

I just completed a rear brake job on my 2006 Cobalt LS. Man, what a pain in the Cojones!

There's a "W" shaped brake shoe retaining spring that is very difficult to put back on. I mean, once I had one side attached, I'd go to pull the other side on and .. bong... out would pop the side I just put on.

Then to boot, there's a retaining ledge on the bottom of the brake plate itself that must be holding the bottom portion of the "W" spring.

Does anyone know of a tool ... ANY TOOL... that will hold this nightmare in place while each side of this retaining spring is installed.

I have a neighbor whose son has a car like mine, but his a performance model. I watched him do his rear brakes, and it looked so easy. On the other hand, the kid is always working on cars and he's 6' 5", 210 pounds and has the strength of 10 of me.

In any event, I did get the job done - took me all day to do it, but I did it.

I'm going to figure out how to make something that hold this engineered joke on the working man, in place. When I do, I'll post of picture of it.

Best of this Holiday Season to everyone.
