New member, intro & some help

Ironically enough, the boys over at Dodge Forum helped me find this place for my cobalt... scary I know but they take good care of me there. SO let's see if y'all can help me with some stuff about my car...

I have an 06 Colbalt LT Coupe. 2.2L EcoTech Auto w/ OD, She has 41,630 miles on her.

I have thought about switching her to synthetic oil vs conventional which she is on right now, What are the pros/cons to this. How much of a price increase would I be looking at & would it still have to be every 3k or would it go to something like 5k for every change? The boys on DF think that it would help my car, and I'm leaning towards this since my Dodge that I will be getting and my Jeep will be on synthetic... but I would love some feedback from other colbalt owners...

Also, what have other people done to clean the engine? Mine is a little dirty (well its Oklahoma Mud red) and I want to hose it or clean it but I don't know what to use, DF has said engine degreaser like simple green would work but I was wondering if there was a easier and cheaper way to do it, or better yet, can I use what I have when I go to the hand wash and all that?

And the last thing, does anyone know where you can get car seat covers? I want to get some for my front and back seats but am clueless on on where to go and having the sport bucket seats in the back and the seat belt arm on the front seats does present a challenge...

First off, welcome!! okay so, I switched my car to full synthetic in one shot with no problems at all. I doubt any bad could come from it and if there's no gain it'll stay the same. But if there's anything I hardly think you'll notice.
As far as cleaning the engine IDK, someone once said to run the motor and get it hot and pour water on it to like steam clean the valve cover, but don't take my word on that, wait to see if anyone else can back that up.
I want seat covers too but the place I am looking at is mad expensive, coverking.com. They're high quality and high price, I won't be seeing these any time soon. As for installing them, the back seat it three pieces (the seat part is one bench, and the back is split about 70/30% and the headrests aren't attached to them so the backs should be easy, and the fronts, the seatbelt loop comes off easy, it's explained in another thread.) so i wouldn't think installing the covers would be hard at all.

Welcome to the site.

Synthetic oil is more expensive. I change mine evey 3k. IMO, it is worth it. There are many tests that are published to show the comparison between the oils. You can find the independant results using google.

As far as the dirt on the engine, Bug-B-Gone or another type of bug remover will cut the grease and be easy on the painted surfaces. Remember to keep the all liguids to a minumum around the plugs!

just go to the car wash
open the hood and spray
it off.

I run synthetic oil change 4500-5000 miles
some run it more near 7500 miles.

IDK about seat covers for balts.

Money isn't going to be an issue for me, with 2 kids, trust me as anal as I am about my car it will be worth it. I will def check them out, I am going to assume they have dodge covers too, so maybe I can hit 2 birds with one stone

welcome to the site! i agree with conway. i switched to synthetic on my first oil change. did it all at once. and and do it every 3000/3 months. i just think its worth it. i just changed mine yesterday, and got 5 qts of mobile 1 for $28 at wally world. had to get the filter elsewhere. anyway, thats my 2 cents.

Definitely switch to synthetic. The extra cost is nearly negated by the additional mileage you can go between changes. Don't even think about changing your oil with synthetic before 5k miles and tests have show you can actually go much farther then that usually. Anything before 5k is a total waste of money.

go full synthetic (mobil 1). and you dont need to change it every 3k i do mine between 4500 and 5000
