New Owner of 2008 LS

Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 2008 Cobalt LS 5 speed with 85000 miles. Very happy with the car, I'm in the process of downgrading cars. I still have a 1995 Camaro Z28 and 1999 Buick Century. Both excellent cars, but I wanted something a little more efficient. Just some quick questions, 1. The car has a XFE badge. I was doing some reading and can someone correct me if I'm wrong, the 2008 had the label XFE if the car is equipped with a manual transmission? 2. How is the stock head unit if I'm planning on upgrading the speakers, any suggestions on speakers or head units? 3. Any suggestions on mufflers/exhaust? I hope to get some sort of cold air intake, wheels, and tint to start with.

Thanks for your advice and good to be a part of your community!

Welcome. Xfe stands for extended full economy, the gear ratio is set to get you better fuel economy.

Speakers and stereo are mostly preference, i'm particular to pioneer or alpine for head unit and Polk or clarion for speakers.

Exhaust again is preference, I'd look around you tube for the sound you like. Make sure you listen to it on your engine, it will sound different on other engine sizes.

WELCOME!! i myself have an 08 LS.

The stock head unit is junk, i plan on swapping out everything audio related eventually but all ive done so far was put in a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD. Even with the stock junky LS speakers, not the upgraded Pioneer ones, let me tell you the difference is amazing. For speakers ive got Polk db series 6x9's and components waiting to go in and im adding the SS subwoofer enclosure to the trunk with a Polk MM1040 and Alpine MRP-M500.

Intake is all preference, i personally have the K&N Typhoon SRI and love it. My MPG went up along with that nice sound. Injen, AEM, ZZP, K&N intakes all have good reputations with the cobalt.

As for mufflers/exhaust there are many ways you could go. Magnaflow, Borla, Corsa, CGS all make cat-backs for out cars and im sure there are moar out there. I have the ZZP midlength header-dp combo waiting to go on, as im still looking for a cat-back myself.

yes!!! i forgot about lowering.. Fe5 shocks/ struts from CED and a pair of lowering springs is the cheaper option. Or you can get coilovers and call it a day
