Removing and replacing gear shifter

I jus go my first chevy cobalt. Its a 2005 4 door car. The gear shifter seems to be out of alignment or something. It will say its in reverse but really be in neutral or something like that. How do I remove that to fix it? Please help

Hijacking this thread

The red gear indicator broke off my gear shifter and is stuck on reverse. Everything works fine, but I really want to fix it. Aside from buying a new one, what do you guys think the best way to fix it would be?

Did you check out the link that Coby posted above? He opened up an automatic shifter and its just a red film. It looks as though it could be reattached

Oh yeah, seen that thread plenty of times. Mine actually broke off. There's a few shards of red visible on the other gears, so reusing that red film is probably not going to be feasible.
