Case Relearn Without a Scanner

hi folks
glad to make my first post on your forum.
I have been working on a 2005 Cobalt base with std 5sp trans that was issuing P0340. This was after 3 new ICMs with fresh plugs.
Last night changed out the coil pack, ICM, checked resistance and gapped the plugs to .040-.042"
Now waiting on a chance to complete the drive cycle to clear all IMReady codes.
Thanks to Coby7 for all of the greate images and details.

This car has a fresh fuel pump since it was blowing the fuse.
while on the fuel pump, also replaced the fuel filter.

As part of the prep to fixing the P0340, the ground terminal at the front engine stud was cleaned and coated to reduce future corrosion.(greased) Also received a programmed PCM. So that is spare right now.

The big question to all is.....
Has anyone sucessfully performed a CASE Relearn WithOUT a scanner as suggested on other GM forums

Thanks in advance
Respectfully

Case relearn is not a term I'm familiar with and a search on the GM server for your year Cobalt came back empty. What is it you want to do exactly?

Now if you replaced the crank position sensor and your talking about CPS relearn, well sometimes if they are close enough and that the engine starts and runs the PCM will relearn the cam crank correlation on it's own after you go through the revs. So usually a couple of hard acceleration later your all set.

Now if it doesn't start then you are going to definitely need the scanner to get it going and calibrated.

From the fullsizechevy dot com forum with the topic "GM Computer Relearn Procedure (including Crankshaft relearn)"

GM Computers use Relearn Procedures (including Crankshaft relearn)...This includes CASE (crankshaft variation relearn)
