Spice It Up?

Hey guys, since this is pretty much the ONLY forum that is looked at anymore lol. What can we do to "spice up" the forums to get more activity and chat in them? I'd like to log in and have a lot going on in the forums, and not have them look so dead all the time. If you have ANY suggestions, let me know here please.

member of the month? person who was most active/helpfull gets a spotlight with picture of him and car and a few questio s about him and the car? may encourage people tobe more active?

also i know that there is a vbulletin mod called vawards or something like that. anyways i had it on my old forum abd it basically was a mod that you could setup awards that would automatically be calculated for example most posts. most threads etc.. and it would have a little trophy icon beside or under your name showing your awards.

that could help to maybe. also would be nice to have the itrader mod that allows us to leave feedback when we buy/sell something on the forum we can leave positive or negative itrader so we can know who is trusted and untrusted to help precent scams

Awards are already a work in progress, just waiting on the owners to do their part.

iTrader is already on forums and setup ready to go.

Member of the month would be nice, but how would you go about calculating that? Hard to do as some places don't count towards your overall post count..

Interesting ideas, keep them rolling guys.

We have plenty of readers, we just need more participation. Some members are easily intimidated. I've tried with some success to reduce the pointless bullying post of some members. People don't come on here to be belittled. They come here for info and backed-up facts. If we provide none of these they will go somewhere else. We absolutely have to make sure that thread titles are accurate so people can easily find the subject they are looking for. There is so much unsubstantiated crap on here that I gave up on cleaning it up and started warning the members that post these false infos to back up their post or retract it.

I really don't see this forum as looking dead to be honest. We just don't have a bunch of BS chats that are meaningless and full of flaming and trolls.

It never hurts to have more ideas though. I have always wondered why we stopped the awards, I thought that really kept a good following of the site.

Vbulletin you can easily see the amount people posted per month, and could also do a thread where members nominate who they think deserves it.

I dont understand how .net gets so much use... I mean yeah theres some good info there but the members there (most of them) are complete shit heads.

I think its busier there because thats primarily an SS site, and someone who buys an SS is gonna mod it and look there.

Where as someone (I'm speaking of the GENERAL populace lol) who buys an LS or LT probably isn't really into modding cars and wont look for a forum, thats probably why a friendly LT LS site like this isn't travelled as much.

But I agree with badges or something for activity levels and such.

Me and speedy will be getting the photoshop contest going next month. .net is very popular for some reason. When you do a Google search they're the first site that pops up. So naturally people will go there first. Maybe if we had actual prizes more people will come. Prizes=people. Everybody likes winning stuff.

Actually this is the first site that comes up more often than not when I do a search for "X". Although I agree that it looks dead here at times, we have more meaningful discussion per post by 400%.

I kind of like this. Twin Cities in Motion does monthly runner profiles. No special way to get selected, just express interest. Once per month they profile someone by putting up their first name, picture, and a list of questions so people can get to know them.
