If by worst, you mean the performance was lacking, you have to remember that the Civic is an economy car and not meant to deliver much of a thrill factor. If the transmission was physically weak, then that's sad seeing as the car barely made over 120hp and a pound or two of torque.

How? The cars had no torque. Were the transmissions/diffs made out of sticks and mud?

They were made out of the assumption that no matter how shitty they are, people will keep buying them and swearing they're the best thing ever - so what if it's dropped three trans and rusted out in a year. It's the best most reliable vehicle ever. Only left me stranded a few dozen times a week!

I don't drive Hondas very often, but from what I have driven, it seems like the Civic is terrible, but the Accord is pretty nice.

Driving the Civic felt exactly like driving my PowerWheels as a kid. If I'd describe your handling as "plastic-y," then you dun goofed designing it.

The Civics had independent rear suspensions, figure they'd handle at least decently lol

Manual trannys are supposed to be quite good too. Drove a few and had no complaints. Very easy to rev match downshift, couldn't miss a gear on an upshift if you tried.
