Gf wants a crossover/small suv

So basically the gf is finally tired of her 98 civic and wants something bigger but still descent on fuel. She wants something 08+ and 4wd.

Just to give you an idea she's looking at Ford escapes, edges, and she seems to like whatever those Mitsubishi ones are.

I guess what I'm saying is she'll pick the ones she like and ill basically get the final word. So what would you get? She's trying to go no more than $20k aswell.

The vues aren't bad. The mitsus are pretty good too. I don't like the escapes, and the edges are odd looking to me, but they are alright mechanically.. why not get a 09 hhr ss? ;)

She hates the hhr with a Passion. I also don't like the Saturn vues. I was kinda hoping you would post, are the Mitsubishi suvs pretty reliable?

The Mitsubishi is out. I hate cvt transmissions and she can't drive stick

Well when my 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander AWD XLS with 400000 kms ever dies I know what I'm getting. CVT or not. I will be riding in an RVR.

I would go with the equinox. Interior is out of this world and not a bad thing to look at either. My buddy has one and it is smooth.

The equinox come in 4wd? I forgot about them. What year does your buddy have?

I know with personal experience, the new escapes have like a hydrostatic transmission. You never hear or feel it shift, and it's really weird, and I don't like that at all. Plus the engines in the escapes look like they are about to fall out the bottom of the car.

As far as vehicles go, I never rule anything out until after I've driven them a little. Some of the cars you would say I'd never get that, you drive once, and it's one of the best cars you can get.

AWD gets worse gas mileage than regular (obviously), but they also handle better and do better on roads in bad conditions (lots of water, snow, slush, ect). Plus, tires usually tend to last longer on awd vehicles. Just find something that the both of you like, but don't shut out any vehicles pre-maturely, cause you never know what you'll end up likeing.

Also, keep in mind the Equinox is the same thing as a vue, just a slightly different body style, but engines/trans/ect are the same.
