Joyride in an M6
So I got a rare taste of V10 might the other day when my boss' son came by the restaurant in his dad's BMW M6 coupe, dropped off a couple of stuff, and asked if I wanted to go for a ride. Shoot, I get time off my post to screw around in a 500hp car, AND I'm still on the clock getting paid. Couldn't say no to that, even if the car was nothing more than a Tercel.
It was a short drive through downtown to the highway, which gave him enough time to play with the settings by activating the M drive, firm up the suspension, sharpen the shifting, steering ratio, this and that. Finally, we get to a patch of open road, and he nails it. The car just comes alive and swallows up the asphalt like a mad demon, and it never stops pulling, never runs out of steam, just gets more and more angry as the tach climbs to the redline. I was grinning like a Mazda3. A few seconds of that, and we're pulling off the highway to turn back into the city, and we stop at a light. A perfect chance to show me the launch control. Ok, so it feathers the throttle at a fairly low 2300-2500RPM, I'm thinking to myself, you'd better hold on to something. Light goes green, he's off the brake and we're doing 60MPH in 4.6 seconds. Good God, the thing is a rocket, and we scared the pants off the guy in the Altima next to us as a bonus. We couldn't of been out for more than 10 minutes, but those are a 10 minutes I won't soon forget. The kid is 23 and drives an X6 35i, and his younger brother's got an '01 Audi S4 stage II. Let me tell you, it's good to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Very good.
