Catback Question for 3.8 Eclipse

So the unsatisfiable itch has returned after months of hibernation. This time it's to mod the 4G. Thankfully, there really isn't much you can do in the Go Fast department so I'll be limiting myself to simple things like an intake, catback and a few other odds and ends.

People on the forum generally agree that the Injen catback is the best exhaust in terms of sound quality and it's said to open up about 5-10hp (as the stocker is apparently quite restrictive). The problem I see is its 3" diameter piping. The car will remain NA and since I'm not planning to go crazy on it, I worry that the exhaust may be too big. I was raised on the notion that unless you're running a V8+, anything over 2.5" will be counterproductive to your gains. Consequently, the price is a tad unreasonable at some 860ish dollars.

Magnaflow makes a similar product with a 2.5" diameter that's a little quieter all around and some $200 cheaper. What do you guys think is the wisest course of action?

There is numerous videos and tests showing that CAI's almost always hurt your power rather than help.

For the catback I would go with the magnaflow as well, it's still going to sound great.

Oh for sure, it definitely won't be a bad sound, but if the Injen really frees up more power because of the extra half inch and that backpressure hubub is all nonsense, then I'll bite the bullet and go for that. People have claimed 300hp+ on nothing but bolt-ons so I'm thinking either they're all crazy, or these motors respond very well to aftermarket parts. There are some shady header/DP options that more often then not either don't fit, require welding and/or throw codes (OBX comes up most often) and there's only one guy who can do tunes, but you'll need a wideband and a fancy cable/program. So I doubt I'll venture into those murky waters. Just want the catback, CAI, STS and maybe lowering springs and stuff like that.

HKS also makes a catback that is crazy stupid loud and drones like a mofo lol

Yeah, I really wish my Eclipse had some sweet 50's era fins. That'd be awesome lol

My biggest gripe is with the plasticy shifter. I'm thinking tighter bushings and a weighted knob will fix it.

Looked up some videos on back pressure and pipe diameters. If what this guy's saying is true, then ideally I'd need a 3.5" exhaust. (263hp, single pipe exhaust)

Is there a dual exhaust system available for it? I would take advantage of that v6!
