How To: SS Rear Disk Swap for Ls Cars

first if you don't know what you are doing or the proper way yo do it then don't attempt this mod.
parts you need
ss rotors, calipers and mounting brackets, parking brake cables-5 lug hubs optional

1/2 inch aluminum plate,3/8 steel plate,grade 8 1/2 inch hardware,2 pieces of 3/16 brake line,hub centric rings

step 1
if you are keeping your car 4 lug you need to make or buy some hub centric rings. make sure they sit flush with the inside of the rotor 57mm id-65mm od i couldn't find any so i made them.

and you need to drill the ss rotors with our 4x100 bolt pattern
step 2
unbolt the shock so you can remove the rear spring.next remove the 4 nuts holding the hub and brakes on.
using the aluminum plate make the first part of the mounting bracket

this is how the aluminum bracket will bolt on but the caliper dosnt bolt to it.if you bolt the caliper on like this it will hit the upper spring seat

then you need to cut the areas in red so the bracket will fit

step 3
bolt the aluminum bracket and hub on the car.
slide the hub centric ring on the hub followed by the rotor.
take the steel plate and make a bracket that bolts to the aluminum one you just made and holds the brake caliper mounting bracket.

step 4
final install of parts.

put the hub and aluminum bracket in the car and torqur the 4 nuts to
33lb ft+30 degrees.
know bolt the steel and aluminum brackets together using at least 2 1/2 inch bolts with lock washers and lock nuts. you dont want these to come out.
slide the rotor on the hub with the hub ring

bolt the caliper mounting bracket on to the steel bracket torque to 85lb ft

install the brake pads and calipers. torque caliper guide pin bolts to 25lb ft.
take 1 of the 3/16 brake lines and attach it to the rubber line on the car to the rubber line on the caliper.
bleed the brakes

step 5
remove the top of the center council, rear cup holder, and parking brake lever cover

on the parking brake lever there is a 10 mm adjusting nut that you want to loosen so you can remove the cables from the metal connector

know under the car remove the cable from the white or blue clip and a black clip

remove the cable by pulling on it from under the car.

attach your new cable to the caliper

slide the cable back into the car and then attach the 2 clips previously removed
now inside the car attach both of the cables to the metal connector and adjust the parking brake.

step 6
your almost done

install your spring and re attach the shock.
bolt on the wheel and your done

this is how i did it and i am not responsible for any damages or injuries that occur while performing or after completing.

Or just get the rear SS axle from junk yard, heh. I don't know about this method, doesn't sound safe.

the price depends on where you get the parts from
this is what i spent

all stock rear brake parts. ebay 35
steel plate 30
aluminum 50
hub rings. for material to make 10
labor free
total 125

all your big brake kits simply use a bracket to move the caliper out farther

one thing i have noticed is that the disc doesn't fade nearly as fast as the drums

there are three reason i did this swap.
1 i found a grate deal on the parts
2 i was bored
3 i hate drum brakes!
