It's purpose is to dampen the snoring noise coming into the filter box and to trap water that might want to get in when you hit a puddle. Removing it doesn't affect the filtration since all of this is before the actual air filter. You won't get more power out of it it will just sound more powerfull.

yeah gives the car a smidgen more grunt, I didn't notice any power bumps. But when I did it I just ripped it out through the headlight opening lol.

I noticed a slight bump in power after installing my CAI, but the method of discovering that may incriminate me if I were to mention it lol

does this have to be removed if i want to install this? "In Stock" Injen SP Cold Air Intake Kit 05 10 Chevy Cobalt 2 2L 2 4L SS Black | eBay also is the the mod that makes the sound better from the intake?

If you want to install it as a CAI you will have to remove the airbox because the filter inlet tube goes into the fender well. If you decide to go SRI then you won't need to. CAI is better for a daily driver.

That's exactly what I have in my car. I drive a 2006 G5 base.

Ripped out the entire stock intake, threw it in a box somewhere and never looked back.
