Wire Connected to Alternator... Burned

So i had a bonehead moment and hooked up my battery backwards on my 09 cobalt LS and turned the key. Once i did that, smoke came out of the engine but then I rushed to disconnect the battery. Long story short, after doing some investigating in my car, the thick wire that hooks up to the alternator, by securing the nut on the threaded bolt coming off the alternator, was completely burned in half. One half of it still connected to the alternator the other burned half we eventually found underneath where the alternator is which is connected to the starter... i think? What is that wire called, and is that wire easily replaceable?
