P0340 Code (Newer Models)

I am having a P0340 code consistently come up for my car.. It also runs a little rough at idle.. I have changed the cam shaft position sensor about a year ago because I was having similar codes.. turns out it was my intake and exhaust solenoids.. (replaced and didn't have an issue until now..)

any ideas on what i need to check or clean to help keep this code clear?

Thanks!

2010 Cobalt LT

Did you ever do a camshaft position relearn?

I did not.. I guess its odd it didn't give me any codes after I changed the original Cam Shaft Position Sensor and Solenoids until now.. but I can research to find out how to do the RELEARN. Thank you!

will keep everyone posted...

You may need a TechII or similar controller to do this. Some people get lucky and position falls close enough that you don't need relearn . Did you by chance remove and re-install the sensor?

I was reading some and yeah it looks like i would need some kinda controller.. but some said you can without a controller but have to do some weird driving technique ... so not sure how to do all that exactly.

I have not tried to do anything with it yet... so would it be helpful to uninstall and re-install it? should I unplug battery to reset at well? any other things I can do to help correct it? clean it?

well i went ahead and had my father in law help me go through and change the timing chain and verify that everything was lined up properly.. so after that.. the car still runs rough at idle and pulls a P0340. I completely cleaned the throttle body.. and installed a new exhaust cam shaft sensor.. still no luck...

I re-read about the relearn.. not sure how to do that.. does anyone know more about it?

Thank you!

Did you check the loom going to the sensors to make sure some wires weren't frayed and shorting to ground or to each other?

I looked briefly and did not see anything.. but i'll try to check more thoroughly as soon as I can... I hate having to tear apart the loom though to follow the wire.. :/

It probably needs replacing, by now it is probably very brittle from the heat.
