The middle pipe (aka 'resonator') on this car has two support points. Both consist of a barbed rod welded to the chassis with a rubber 'insulator' hanging from it. Another rod welded to the pipe plugs into the 'insulator'. In my case, both rods have broken off the pipes. This leaves the whole exhaust hanging between the manifold connection and the rear muffler hanger.
I obviously have to replace the resonator/pipe (and the converter, but that's a separate story), but this isn't a great time for doing so.
Quest: has anyone found a way to 'temporarily' support that pipe? All I can think is to drill a hole in the underbody and tap a screw into it, to support some universal hanger. I'm not sure the metal there would be thick enough to give good support.
Whatever you do don't drill through the floor it will rot fast enough on it's own. If the 'insulators' are still there just run hanger wire around the pipe and through the hanger until you can get it to a shop.
