Toyota Like Uncontrolled Acceleration, Has Anyone else Encountered It???

We have had two occasions over the last 4 weeks where the vehicle has taken off with rapid acceleration and we had to go into neutral to slow down. Can't find any obstructions to cause the pedal to stay engaged. Only has happened when we are accelerating hard. Nothing noted under other conditions. If I should post this in another part of the forum please let me know.

2009 with all kinds of options. The acceleration seems almost the super fast burst you get when reengaging the cruise control rather than the more gradual you get when using the pedal. Only problem not using cruise control when it happens.

I know on my 07 ss that if I have to let off, not shut off cruise but tape the brakes and slow abit that when I push the button to resume cruise speed it well take off decently but stop once it hits what I had it at originally. Not sure if that is what you are having problems with. It doesn't just slowly go back up, but speed back up to the prior speed, which I like.

no wasn't using cruise just noting similarity of acceleration

Seems like the vehicle accelerates much faster when using the cruise control to get to speed than using the accelerator pedal. Our case cruise not being used but the car acted as if cruise was turned on and it was wanting to go to some super high speed and would not react to brakes...had to put tranny into neutral to break the acceleration.

yeah I work at a chevy dealer and we are doing this recall on the Pontiac Vibes because they are built by Toyota and disguised as a GM product lol same as Toyota Matrix for those that are not familiar. all they do is put a little metal spacer in the electronic gas pedal device. IDK how this is supposed to fix anything but they say it does. I personally hate the idea of cars having electronic throttle. I don't mind electronics in a car but i say they should have kept the throttle cable driven. I have not heard of this problem on anything other than Toyota's though

^ really haha, knew it since they came out. GM and Toyota has been sharing for awhile when it come to some stuff. I did laugh when I detailed a Vibe though and it had toyota on its wheels or something like that.

lol yeah Tom it's pretty gay. If GM would have designed their own car they wouldn't be suffering with Toyota's problems lol.

yeah man when i work on the Vibe's at work all of the parts have "Toyota" stamped on them lol. Every time i have work on them it's like i don't know what i'm doing cuz it's nothing like working on a GM product.

ya it always makes me laugh when you see anti-import people driving a vibe. As Beamer said though, take it to the dealership. Best to get it checked out than risk an accident
