Trouble Getting into First?

The odd time when I try to put it into first (only first, havent had it with other gears) it feels like there is something blocking me from getting into it.

It seldom happens but when it does I have to smack it "first,N,First,N" then is gives in and goes into first, there are no grinding sounds.

Are my shifter cables missaligned?

try readjusting the shift cable under the boot...or take it in for the shop to do it...I had to disconnect all the cables to install my Hurst SSK and it wouldn't go into any gear until they were readjusted correctly...yours probably is just one thread away from being bind free...

your shifter may be crooked. if the shaft spins in the pivot thingy john deal idk the name it'll throw off the shift pattern. this happened with my hurst shifter. lotsa bad times with that pos.

Lol, agreed. I have trouble getting ino first the odd time as well. Seems this is a common thing in our cars. It goes in easy of you put it in first gear when you're about to stop or at really low speeds, like rolling to a stop for a light or stop sign, or, as mentioned, throw it in second or even fourth then back into first and it goes perfectly. Of course keep the clutch down in all of these cases :p
