Not Passing Nys Inspection :(

i've googled and asked every tech i know about this, no one freakin knows. i just need to know exactly how long it takes to clear old codes from the history. the car does emissions checks and it takes a certain amount of time to complete the scan, leaving codes in the history even after you clear them. i got an inspection, failed because p2135 and p0496 were incomplete. throttle position sensor voltage correlation issue and evap purge solenoid. the car drives fine, nothing's up with it and i have minor bolt on mods. the car is hptuned. julian date is not within the "go f yourself date". the codes come up randomly. i am soooo pissed because i went a week with no cel and this morning it came back on. i seriously want to light this thing on fire. if I don't pass my registration gets dropped, then my insurance drops me, then the bank comes after me for having an un insured car that i still owe 7 grand on. help.

i used to have a problem with my xtreme. my dad had a buddy who would reset all the codes and it wouldnt come up for another 150 miles. my friend says he does something with disconnecting your battery and touching both ends for 15 or so seconds and it will reset your system for awhile? idk he said it worked on his old escort. idk about these new up to date cars

that sounds like you're shorting out your entire car. I don't think that's a necessarily a good idea...

I don't know this car well enough any short and cheap workaround. However, if I were caught in the same circumstance. I would either borrow or buy (from a wreckyard) the ECU and stick it in your car for the test. I don't think it's hard to replace the box, couple of bolts and wires harness (but I've never done it before).

05 06 COBALT HHR PURSUIT ENGINE COMPUTER ECM ECU PCM on eBay.ca (item 310148366620 end time 07-Jun-10 13:56:20 EDT)

good luck though, hope this helps.

thank you. i do have a cat i can throw in the car temporarily, but it will ruin my oxygen sensors. i am considering this and some other options. people are saying they can tune out the codes with hptuners, which i disagree with. also my buddy gets not so legal inspections and somehow still passes through the machine, getting not only a legal sticker but legal information up to albany so he can register his car at will. my head is spinning, i have 8 days to get this thing to pass. i'll wait 3 days and if it doesnt pass by then, or a mil light comes on within that time, i will get the used pcm, throw my cat in and do new sensors.

Just find the shadiest lookin mom and pop garage you can find. They'll usually just slap a sticker on if you pay them enough. Thats what I did with the Escort when I had it.

Funny you should say that...back in the 70s Florida had an annual inspection requirement. The Florida Government did a study and found that over half the inspection sites were doing nothing more than collecting the inspection money and pasting the inspection decal on the windshield...and THAT is the reason there is no annual inspection requirement in most of Florida today. Auto owners were paying for the inspections but not getting one. Not having an annual inspection has not been a problem down here. I'd bet if other states really looked they would see the SAME thing -- basically forcing owners to pay for nothing!!!! When I lived in Louisiana (Air Force) everyone knew where to take their cars -- same thing -- paying because you had to and not getting anything but a decal in return. At least Florida had the guts to do the right thing!
