Shimmies and Rattles and Shifting, Oh My

UPDATE: The shifting problem was caused by a bad master cylinder, in case anyone was curious.

I have a shimmy and rattle in my 06 Cobalt with 90.000 miles. When I'm going 50-60 my front end rattles and the steering wheel shakes. Sometimes it's really bad and sometimes it's not. When I'm going around a turn the shaking stops. This happened back at 40,000 miles also and I believe they replaced a bushing of some type, what bushing would that be?

does the gear grind occasionally when putting it into gear with the clutch pedal pressed down?

the shaking could be a control arm bushing, my second guess is an axle. could also be a tie rod end or ball joint.

Yes, the gear does occasionally grind even with the clutch pedal pressed.

well bad news for you, it's most likely worn syncro rings. alignment will cause shaking too.
