Fuel Pump Recall?????? 2006 Cobalt

My Cobalt is out of warranty and every time we got out of the car we could smell gas. Since it was out of warrany, I dropped the fuel tank and discovered it was comming from the fuel pump. After looking up how much the part would be I found out there NHTSA had posted info about a recall on this. I called the dealer, they said they heard about the recall and to bring it in. I had the vehicle towed in and then the dealer tells me that my (VIN#1G1AK55F467805064) does not show a recall in their system. I had to pay $620 for the reapair and was told to contact the Customer Assistance Center. After going all the way up to a supervisor I was told that they would not reimburse me for the repair, I was out of warranty, and there was no recall on my VIN#.

According to another post, included in the recall is: 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt with VIN break numbers:
As you can see my VIN does fall within the recall VIN#'s
I live in Texas
What should I do????

Are these really the correct VIN number ranges? If so, mine has a gas smell as well. God I hope I can get this fixed for free!

Can we get a link or something with some detailed recall information?

print off the document you found with those recall numbers and take it to the dealership. usually if you show them documentation of the recall they will honor it

just take it to a dealership and tell them you need to get the fuel pump recall done to your car.

since its a recall, warrenty has nothing to do with it

I did take it to the dealership and they said their system does not show a recall for my VIN#. I had to pay for the repair. I then tried to work with Chevrolet customer assistance and they told me the same thing. For some reason even though my VIN# falls within the recall, I was not mailed a recall letter and when the dealer looked up my VIN# there was no recall listed.

Its very frustrating that even though I had the problem that caused there to be a recall, for some reason I am not included in that recall.

2006 cobalt fuel pump

I'm like the many on here that has had this problem happen to their 2006 cobalt. The dealership said the car wasn't included in the recall and gave me GM's number to call. I called and was told it wasn't under the recall but they would send a rep out to look at the car and see if they could be of any financial assistance. But from what I'm reading online that will amount to them telling me it wasn't part of the recall.

But it seems to me by the amount of people I'm finding online they need to expand the recall to all 2006 cobalts.

Please take the time to write the NHTSA or call them. You can find their information here... NHTSA Contact Information | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Maybe enough complaints will make a difference. Before someone gets seriously hurt or injured.

Yes it is an expensive fix but beyond the expense this is a critical safety recall.
