Clicking Engine??

Hello everyone! I am kinda new to the forums so sorry if something like this has already been discussed! Basically I'm worried about my car, but haven't had time to take it in "or the money" to have it checked out. It makes a clicking like noise under engine load, but only when in gear. If coasting or hardly applying the gas it's fine, but accelerating or climbing hills makes it very noticeable. The main reason I'm worried is because I may have bent a valve... this was my first car with a standard transmission, and within the first week of owning it I somehow miss-shifted from 3rd-2nd at 90mph.... it over-revved but I quickly slammed the clutch in.... Then the next day I noticed the clicking... I'm not sure if it was doing it before but I don't think so. The car still has plenty of power and I get very good mileage "hit 41.6MPG the other day!" but i'm still worried I did serious harm. Any ideas? Or am I screwed?

I know you'll get some very helpful feedback from other forum users; as your vehicle is a 2009, you are very likely still within your powertrain warranty, although depending on the dealer's discretion, coverage can be denied due to "misuse" of the vehicle. I'm available to help you look into this further, but understand if you need to pursue other options.

Sound like spark ping. Does it calm down as you climb the hill as spark knock sensors correct timing or is it noisy the whole way up. Have you tried downshifting as it may be lugging to much. Do you have an engine code? Are you using E85? Did you try higher octane gas? Pretty hard to hurt these engine by over-revving.

It will keep doing it, though it's harder to hear it at higher RPMs just due to the engine growl. No engine codes or anything either....

You might have a bad knock sensor. Not sure if it would leave a code.

---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------

I guess you would get a code if it was a knock sensor but only if it's out of range.

P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0326 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0327 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0328 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0329 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0330 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2)

P0331 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

P0332 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

P0333 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit High Input (Bank 2)

P0334 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Intermittent (Bank 2)

I'm going to bring it to the dealership soon I think... I'm just worried the over-rev caused damage so they won't fix it under warranty. So It's probably not a valve then?

all depends on how you explain your problem to a service advisor so basically dont say you downshifted at 90mph say when accelerating i hear clicking noise from my engine

I think what he means is don't lie, but don't tell the truth until they ask for it.

alright... wish me luck! I need it lo, I can't afford a major engine overhaul, I bought a newer car so I wouldn't have to worry about reliability, then I went and messed it up :/

Well I went in, and had an oil change done at the same time as I was due" I have them to do it to make sure they don't try to void my warranty lol". They did the change first, then we couldn't get it to do it! I could very faintly hear it at times but they couldn't. Then of course on my way home it came back. They told me if anything comes of it now they have it on record that I brought it in for an engine clicking so it's under warranty... but it's still irritating. I'm not sure if I want to bring it back because with my luck it will stop again and I will look like a moron, GAH!!!!
