Excessively Slow Shift to Drive

As the title says, I have an excessively slow shift to drive problem.

I thought I'd ask here before I start messing with stuff. I have tested re-tested and tested several more times, I shift into reverse, half way down my drive, I shift into drive, I completely roll into the street before the car finally gets into Drive and starts moving forward, It take roughly about 8 - 12 seconds.

I noticed this a few days back when I would reverse out and go into drive to take off and nothing happened, then finally the car started moving.

So far I assume this could be dirty trans fluid as it does not shift 100% smooth either.

Any idea's anybody?

Last night I did a complete clean out of the Gear stick assembly, completely cleaned it all, it looks nice and new, and moves from gear to gear smoothly, however, there is still a delay, this morning (was cold out) it shifted on time, right when I was showing someone the issue, always the way.. I will do some more testing, hoping it was just something in the interior gear assembly maybe not pulling the cable enough or something.

For safety reasons you can't put car into drive while backing-up over a certain speed. Transmission will only engage in drive after an almost stop.

Well, here some more news

Not only is it still doing this, now it does not shift from 1 to 2 quickly now, there is a big rev between now. I literally have to drive it like a standard (gas pedal wise).

Something is up for sure...

Dirty trans fluid/filter ?

I'm just going to change the fluid and filter, its not a big expense, pretty easy to do too.

I will do this tomorrow, will post back results.

Yea, I will do all that tomorrow when I raise the car up, nothing is on my drive way so I don't suspect any leaks, but still, I will check.

Might want to disconnect battery for a minute or two. Maybe TCM needs a reboot with all the fiddling with ECM.

I disconnected the battery already, tomorrow I will take it for a test drive, then see how it goes, if its good, I do not go to the auto parts store, if not, well, I do.

Hopefully this and my other sensor issue can be fixed before my LED's come in, it will making modding feel that much sweeter. :D

Did the change, I also had to change the pan since it was so bent it would have taken me all day to straighten it out, so I got a new one, but I got a nice gift with my new pan, it has a drip nut, SCORE!!!!

Anyway, there were no leaks, but it appears there was only about 5 quarts in there, I believe its supposed to be 6.9, so I changed the filter, gasket and pan, added the fluid, took it for a spin and now its working much smoother than before, I no longer have the Shift to Drive delay (bear in mind, its only be tested once, I will post back later if anything changes).

Also, the gear 1 to 2 was a little rough at times, not anymore.
