Exclamation HELP!!! My Cobalt Sounds Like a Diesel....

OK, now before anyone gets on my case. my car sounds like a diesel, as in, there is an apparent, loud noise when my car is under power (not revving in neutral) coming from what sounds like the down pipe. i tightened the flanges, and even went as far as taking the exhaust off, plugging both ends, pressurizing it, and submersing it in water and... NO LEAKS. I've taken it to Chevy, but again, theyre ueless.... its throwing no codes and im at a loss. if anyone has USEFUL info, i would appretiate it. the noise is starting to get really aggravating...

Maybe one of the muffler baffles has come loose! Where is the noise? If it gets loud enough you might not hear the Honda fart cans....

Hahahahah...

If i forgot to mention it, it sounds like it is coming from the downpipe. When i'm driving under power, it sounds like it is coming from behind my center console/stereo area. Honda hate aside, i bought an Ecotec, not a TDI! hahaha.

BillBurger09,

If you like, I can follow up on that dealership appointment you mentioned in your initial post. I'm sorry they weren't able to find anything for you!

Please send me a PM if you're interested (be sure to include your VIN and the name of your dealer).

Thanks,
Sarah

The gasket between the manifold and the dp could be bad/ loose. Mine sounded like that after putting in the header and the connection wasn't complete. Tightened it down and problem solved, that was about 6 months ago.

Thank you sarah, I wish you were around when my ignition broke. But that is quite alright, if I cannot fix it, im just not going to worry about it. It'll just expidite my plans of getting a Cat-Back.

i torqued the hell out of the flange, and then tested it. Im at a loss with this. I ran a full system fuel cleaner through the motor (similar to SeaFoam, just a lot stronger) that my buddy got for me from his shop, and that made it a little better, I dont know what that is telling me. Ahhhh. Cobalts....

dont blame the balt, it just happens to cars (we dont need another bostonfan). I would just invest in a header back setup if that is truely where the problem is stemming.

I gotcha, i had hell-on-wheels before i got this thing. the Cobalts a god-send compared to my truck hahaha, and I apologize but i dont understand the "bostonfan" reference. My plans were to get a good system, this may have just made it happen sooner, you know?

Might be the heat shield that broke loose.
