BCM ass'y

Body Control Module.

Don't know if anybody is interrested but I'm in the process of repairing a BCM and thought you guys might want to see the insides. Even though GM qualifies these as non serviceable, I have so far an 80% success rate. This one in particular might be a failure because I received it to late and corrosion as already set in. I'm still going to try since it only has 2 or 3 issues like trunk lid ajar, hood switch and DRL.

Any questions feel free.

Well this one in particular just needs cleaning mostly, I might have to redo a few solder points destroyed by corrosion. Most BCM so far are just dirty and corroded. One had an electronic component failure and I couldn't get the IC but I kept it and if I junk an other one I will transfer the IC and test it.

Ah i see. So I might need to do that to mine. If it's non-repairable is it covered under warranty?

Yes, it is covered under warranty. GM just replaces them. But to buy they are 700$.

Thanks Coby for the information...Question for you...where is it located on the car that they're prone to corrosion? I think my car has a 3 year warranty. Is this something I should be checking on occasionally?

In the center console. 98% don't have any problems. This BCM in particular was from a flooded car. If no water or dirt gets to it you should be fine.

Wow! I'm impressed. That looks unbelievably intimidating. Glad there are technical minds out there like yours to tackle that. I had mine replaced since it was under warranty and that's what the dealer recommended in my circumstance. BTW, it didn't fix my car's problem.

Good luck to you in your efforts.

1st post about it. Dealer paid for work since car was under warranty.

2nd post

3rd post. Again, dealer paid for work. I think they in turn, billed GM. No problems since November 2011.
