'05 Cobalt Lock Problem

Hello all, we have an '05 Balt with a laundry list of issues (correction-it has subscriptions of issues). As of yesterday the locks have developed a mind of their own. Here are the signs we are working with:

When the car is locked with remote-The car unlocks itself again.
When the car is placed into Drive-The locks engage, but then unlock again.
NONE of the UNLock buttons work, however the Lock buttons work fine.

Looking for any suggestions on this issue.

Thanks!

Jesse

Kinda looks like you have a bad unlock switch that is stuck closed. Did you happen to leave a window open in a downpour?

No, but the manual windows do not stay shut in the car. They work their way down after a few miles of driving.

How to I check/replace this part?

Thank you Coby for the quick response.

I would start by wiggling and playing with the unlock switch drivers door since it is the one used the most. If that don't help, take the switch apart and measure for continuity.

Oh, have you tried your other remote and keeping the regular one at a distance in case it is your remote.

I will pull that thing out tonight and toss a dmm on the car and switch.

I have tried the remote removal. That is a good call btw. Not many think of that one.

Yeah, sometimes when the battery goes low remotes will start to have a mind of their own.

I noticed her driver side lock is no longer illuminated. Would a simple switch replacement remedy this problem, or is the problem deeper?

I think acoutu has taken these apart, he might know if you can just change the bulb.

Have you tried repositioning the handle at 10 o'clock as oppose to 2 o'clock maybe, on the drivers side when window is fully up. The shear little downward pressure by the handle might keep your window up. I don't think the handle is keyed for one spot in particular.

There is still the issue of the UNLOCK not working and the car unlocking itself when the LOCK is hit.

The switches are easily replaced. Swapping the bulb is difficult due to the limited space in the switch, but its still possible with a bit of patience. the switch very well may be causing the problem though

as for the unlock, it definitely sounds like something is stuck and constantly sending the unlock signal. have you tried to manually locking the doors to see if they pop open again?
