A/C Not Working

Okay, I have a 2005 Cobalt LT. A couple of weeks ago my A/C wasn't blowing near as cold as it used to. So I go get on of these DIY recharge systems and follow the directions and charge my A/C system to ~45-50. Then after that the system just blew hot air. I take it to the mechanic and he finds nothing wrong with it and it was blowing cold as ice for him. The A/C worked that day then went out again the next. I realized that the compressor sounded like it was trying to turn on every 10 seconds or so, but never did. I take it back to the mechanic and he keeps it for a couple of days. He said the only thing he could find was that the idle went drastically low when at a stop or lifting off of the brake and this caused it to go into a safe mode which turned off the
A/C compressor. He ran every diagnostic test on my car and nothing at all came up. He said he fixed that problem, I asked what he did and he said he would tell me later and that it was top secret, which I thought was weird. Thankfully he did all of this at no charge. The car runs MUCH better now than before, but the A/C is still not working. Does anybody have a clue as to what may be wrong? He also said that the compressor was not overfilled which I thought may have been the problem. Thanks to anyone with any ideas.

You have over charged your unit. Take it to an A/C specialist.

If you overcharge your system the compressor won't start because the pressure is already to high but without the compressor the refrigerant won't circulate therefore no cold air.

Some stuff is better left to the experts with the right equipement.

Agreed. There is a reason the charging equiptment is worth thousands of dollars.

I agre with both of you. Just wonder why the mechanic told me it wasnt overcharged. Should the pressure read less than ~45-50?

There's a low pressure side and a high pressure. Both are important .
