I don't want to get kicked off the fourm for exciting everyone, but I have several pages of info. from a VERY good raidator shop talking about the BAD of DEX-A-COOL. I would like to upload them to run a pole on everyones thoughts.
I don't know what DEX-A-COOL is, but I've been running DEX-COOL in both my coolant reservoir/engine AND in my intercooler for my turbo setup, and it does the job perfectly and effectively for over 2 years with no issues whatsoever. I'd have a hard time believing there's a better choice really. If it works, it works. No sense in fooling with an already good setup unless there's another big breakthrough in technology

The reason we have to use dex-cool fluids instead of traditional anti freeze has to do with the chemicals in thhe fluids and the materials our engines our made of. Don't ask me for the little details, but the stuff in traditional antifreeze will corrode the shit out of our engines.
thusly we use dexcool
It is more of what it doesn't have (Silicate and phosphate free)

I came to my own conclusions and had it flushed out long ago for various reasons. It is my understanding that low coolant levels and/or keeping the product in the system for too long is what leads to sludge problems. If you can avoid those 2 scenarios, to the best of my knowledge, it should not be problematic and will do a fine job. If you keep it, watch your levels and increase your service interval.
Nevertheless, GM does offer the choice of Prestone Extended Life (OAT) if you do not wish to use the Dex. According to 2 dealerships in my area, Prestone meets or exceeds GM specifications and will keep your warranty intact.
