How could it be alternator, if it wont even power up when connected for a jump start?,

I think that my sister lefts the head lights on yesterday during the day after driving through a construction zone

OK, why can't you open the trunk again?
You can't forget lights on with a Cobalt, they turn off automatically after 10-12 minutes, even if you turn them on after you take the key out of the ignition.

If you don't even have a dome light, this means it's your battery, battery connections or "BCM" fuse. If you have dome and radio then it could probably be your run crank fuse or Boost post has come loose.

If your key is stuck in the ignition because you have no power, you can insert a pin under the steering wheel to release the key from cylinder.

I have no power at all what so ever, it was not on automatic lights, it was on manual lights. And thanks for the tip on the key

Don't matter if it's on manual it will shut off after 10 or 12 minutes.

You said a jump did nothing, then you probably have a burnt "BCM" fuse. Would the lights come on? If even the lights wouldn't come then you have a really dead battery.

I would get an extra key cut just to open doors and trunk, this key doesn't have to be a pass-lock and you just won't be able to start the car with that particular key.
