07 Cobalt Fuel Pump Recall

My daughter's Cobalt became hard to start and smelled like gas. I crawled under it and found gas slobbering out of the top of the tank around the two plastic fuel lines.
After reasearching here and elsewhere I found the recall for this and called the 800-630-2438 number. The lady that answered denied that there was a recall but I had the number and date of the recall and so she finally found it.
She asked for the last eight of my vin number which started with 772. She then told me my car wasn't covered because the vin number range covered was 77100076 to 77317715. Say what?
After I threatened legal action, she finally agreed to set up an appointment with my local dealer.
I delivered the car there yesterday and they said that it wasn't covered. I told them that it was and gave them the claim number the lady had given me.
I picked the car up yesterday afternoon and the dealership said that they covered the repair but had to get special permission from their district representative.
I then got a call from the first lady I spoke with from Chevy and she said it had been covered due to the recall that SHE had told me about.
The net effect is that my car got fixed, but if you were the least bit weak and uninformed, you could not have gotten it done. It shouldn't be that hard to get the recall service you deserve.

I don't understand something if your VIN started with 772***** it was in the 77100076 to 77317715 range why did she say it wasn't again?

---------- Post added at 01:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 PM ----------

Because mine is in that range.

She was just trying to have me not exercise my rights under the recall.
I have several numbers for the recall. I have 090226 nad 80466 and then this one 09V419000. Some of these might be bulletin numbers, but I eventually got it done with these numbers.
She was asking questions from a script and wasn't listening to what I was saying. Even though I told her that gasoline was dripping on the ground under the car, I had to say that I smelled gas before she would relent.
If you search via goggle, you will get a lot of hits about this. I went to the NHTSA website (safercar.gov) and printed out the official recall. It is listed as a recall for 2009 cars, but 2006 and 2007 cars are included. I do not live in one of the "warmer" states that is listed in the recall, but my vin number falls within the range.

Rriggs92, if you would have this problem your car would wreak from the smell of gasoline. Check your average speed if it's under 30 miles per hour that's the reason for low mpg. Too much stop and go, go, go.....

You're welcome. My brother works at a chevy dealer so he got word of it this morning. The recall is for cars sold or currently registered in southern states, Cali, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and Nevada. He also mentioned something about 2009 cobalts in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Supposedly they are offering extended coverage i.e. longer warranty, for fuel pumps for owners in all other states for a certain time frame and mileage cutoff.
