Loud Rattling Noise Under Pedal Area

My 08 cobalt has a loud rattling noise that occurs only when the car is moving, rattling seems to get faster as the car goes faster. And the noise seems to diminish as I apply throttle.

The noise comes from drivers side, somewhere close to the gas pedal. The steering wheel shakes as well.

Anyone, please help.

If it's a rattle it might just be your exhaust heat sheild that has a broken spot weld. Lots of people just rip those out but you can probably get it spot tacked at your local shop.

On old hondas we used to just take them out or persuasively shape them (ie a hammer) so they dont hit the exhaust pipping.

Did you hit something recently? Did the degree of rattling increase over time? Shaking steering wheel could be caused by a number of things...how does the front tire wear look?

Sometimes ...if you have the money..it pays to just take it in to a reputable dealer for repair.

Good luck. ...and report back when you find out what it is please.

Good morning Senecan,

You've gotten some great feedback from other members; I am unable to provide technical advice, but if you wanted for me to check into warranty or recall information, or if you want for me to check into anything with a dealership for you, please let me know! As a new forum member, I do not believe you can send direct messages at this point, but I can forward you my email address.
