Engine Replaced/ No Start...

I've got a friends 06 Cobalt 2.2l in my shop that I just replaced the motor in due to a bad head. The new motor is an 07 2.2l. I now have a no spark/no start.

After some trouble shooting I noticed that with the old crank sensor I am getting the crank count but no spark signal. Tried replacing the sensor with the new style and replaced the pigtail so everything would plug up right but now have nothing at all. I can still plug in the old sensor and get the count but nothing else is working...

I'm curious if due to the new crank sensor style if this motor is even compatible with the year older electronics. Any help is greatly appreciated and I can answer any questions you may have...

Did you keep the old style ignition coils?

Yes, I used all electronics from the old motor. It was a long block assembly that had been rebuilt at the local chevy house. the only thing that came with it was the fuel rail which is working just fine.

And no DTCs because it hasn't started yet....Make sure crank position sensor is plugged in. You have checked all the fuses? ( I'm thinking Ign 1 voltage especially) Man it should work... I'm going to make a phone call and come back.

Ok, so on the old CPS you're getting the crank count thus allowing you to see that it's reading the actual position of the crank. Are you getting the correct input signal from your ignition solenoid to your coils? Is it backfiring, hesitating or anything abnormal while cranking when you're trying to start? Are the fuel injectors actually spraying fuel at the right time when they are supposed to be? Also, are you getting the correct signal from your cam sensors? Need some more info to help diagnose this. what have you checked what haven't you checked? Keep us posted so we can help you.

OK. Just wanted to make sure we had done this before and we have it should work. Make sure everything is plugged in and it should fire right up. If you have a spare ignition module try it.

Glad to be here. No dtc's, everything is plugged in, and all fuses are good... Did try a new ignition module but no change. This one uses a simulated cam signal from the ign module so nothing to check there. Everything else is reading correctly as far as I can tell. Injectors are firing in time and all getting everything at the ign module except for cps signal. For some reason it's not wanting to pick up cyl 1...

So you're not picking up cyl 1 only or is it all the cyl you're not picking up at the ign module?

Faulty wire to the ign module? That would be the only thing I could guess on that, or an improper connection to the cps or ign module.
