Reduced Engine Power

My fiance is currently in another state with her 05 Chevy Cobalt. This morning she has called me to tell me that her car has given her a message stating "Reduced Engine Power" and I have no idea what that means. I am going up to see her soon and would like to get an idea of what I can do or is this something for the dealership?

Thanks in advance

Might have blown a fuse. The one that supplies the sensors like MAF and MAP. I think it's called "ign 1 voltage" on 05-06. Don't think exh fuse will give a "Reduced Engine Power " just codes.

Maybe even the PCM fuse.

Sorry to hear about this situation with your fiancee, gomeazy. I hope she's okay!

This message displays when the vehicle has reduced engine power to avoid damaging the engine. Aside from that, I don't have information on why the engine is in danger of being damaged. I hope that all goes well, and if I can check into anything for you on this situation don't hesitate to contact me at the email indicated in my signature.

first, welcome to the site. Now for the nitty gritty lol

What you can have your fiance do is go to Autozone or Advanced Auto, and have them run their scanner on the car to give her the codes that the car is throwing. Major components that throw codes normally won't throw the reduced power message as well as the secondary (reduced power tune on the ECU), until the major components throw a code X amount of times. What she can do, get the code read it should be a P0xxx number. Tell her to get that number and it will tell her what is throwing the code. A simple fix to this to get her home safely is to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect it, this does a hard reset on the ECU allowing it to clear stored faults cache. Now, if the same part is acting up, when the car is started, within 30 minutes or so the code should come back on. If it's an intermittent problem, it should stay off. That's my suggestions to ya, hope everything works out and I hope you keep us updated as we can walk you through the troubleshooting to fix your problem .

Code PO1121 will probably come up. Throttle body actuator is what it means. Check your connector first for loose wires. Rockauto has new Throttle bodies for round' $104. Hope this helps!
