Bad Fuel Pump. I have 73,000 on it and have not had any problems yet. I pick the car up tomorrow so I will talk with them about some of the stuff I have read about fuel pumps. Keeping the tank full and not riding around on empty will keep the pump from overheating. Fuel pumps are cooled by sitting in gas. I couldnt get the car today so the dealer got me a rental car for tomorrow free of charge.
I was lucky. GM changed the warranty on the Engine-Drive train to not include the fuel system in the warranty in 2010. Mine is a 2009 so it is covered. General Motors customer service called me this morning and followed up during the day to keep me updated on the staus of the car. GM is doing a nice job to satisfy their customers and get repeat business. I am very satisfied!

Great news, RichD! I'm available here on the forum or by email as well if you should have any questions (include the last 8 of your VIN with any inquiries).

Take care and have a great holiday season!

Mechanic said it was a melted connector that caused high resistance in the fuel pump. Apparently the connectors come loose somtimes then overheat causing pump failure. The rental car was a suburban. Little different from the cobalt.
