Airbag Light Passenger Side

Well my daughters new 2008 cobalt LT with 10,000 miles on it just popped up the passenger side airbag light its a canadian car so its the picture with the airbag and the X through it. Nothing on the DIC though. Read some of the stuff on here in a closed thread, guess I will have to check it out or cover it with black tape!

Any one have any other ideas?

Would it still be covered?

The car still has some warranty on it through GM.

Factory warranty follows the vehicle and not the owners. If the previous ower purchased extended warranty and if it was included in your purchase then the original owner would need to contact GMPP directly to have it transferred. GMPP number is 1-800-276-7676.

Powertrain Component Warranty Coverage

First 5 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first.
$0 deductible on repairs.
Warranty is fully transferable at no extra charge.
Engine Coverage (some exclusions).
Transmission/Transaxle Coverage (some exclusions).
Transfer Case Coverage (some exclusions).
Drive System Coverage (some exclusions).

Just to clarify, the passenger "airbag off" light above your HVAC is staying on all the time? If that's the case, to the best of my knowledge, there is a fault in the system.

Some people have reported the seatbelt tensioner causing this issue. Others have had a faulty passenger occupancy sensor. Whatever the issue, I'm guessing the that the fastest way to diagnose is to pull codes.

Is there a way to get the DIC to show the codes or do I need a code reader?
