Engine Stalls and Quits

Hery guys, me again. I was on a few weeks ago re: oil light. Checked the pcv system, plugs and gaskets, and all was fine according to two mechanics. Oil is in the car and as of today not an issue.

Today, I am driving home from work and I notice the accelerator isn't working. My steering and brakes are fine but the car is rolling down the road. I pull it to the side and listen and the engine is not even on. I waited about 5 minutes to ignite and it caught for 3 seconds before shutting off again. I am waiting for a tow at the moment.

You guys were a great help last time; from an amateur car operator, does anyone have any ideas?

ya my gas is at half. I'm thinking it's the pump also. The past couple of days, the car kind of shakes when idling or driving at 20km or less. Anything to do with a fuel pump?

Pixies2,
Just checking as you used kilometers as your unit of measure - are you writing from Canada? If so, I can get you the number for Customer Service for your region if you like.

Gas filter plugged maybe, if there are no codes. Or gas line froze if your in colder climate.

Hey guys, I had it looked at. Mechanic said the car started fine and they tried 3 times. No codes came up on the car, engine or otherwise. I feel relieved that I'm not losing my paycheck over this but I'm still a bit tentative driving a car that stalled and shut down.

My question is: should I get the pump and/or filter changed anyway? Or was this a case of bad gas/moisture in the tank?

I live in Toronto and this week has been cold and snowy.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Start by adding a little bottle of gas line antifreeze to a full tank. If this $2 dollar solution fixes your problem, then you're set to go. Change the filter at the recommended maintenance schedule. Also in cold winter days always fill your tank.

Me yet again guys. Not sure if i should laugh or cry; this car is killing me. Dealership felt there was nothing wrong with the car. 2 days later, today, I;m driving and I come to a red light after being on the highway for 10 minutes.

The RPMs are down well below 500 and the car shakes fairly violently, in spurts. It feels like its about to quit. Once the accelerator is hit it's all fine again until the next light when it's even worse.

No CEL, full tank of gas, used the antifreeze as recommended...Ive read on other threads here it could be one of a hundred things. Does anyone have a clue or could narrow this down? Ive tried 3 mechs and none have found a problem...

05 Cobalt with 140 000 on it.

Anyway, thanks and happy new year!
