Looking for a Good Engine Rebuild Company

2008 Cobalt 2D LS 2.2L Ecotec 44,000 miles.

My Timing Chain "jumped/broke". Caused a bent valve which damaged a cylinder. I admit that my oil changing has been less than perfect. But its never been bad. I also failed to properly file my oil change reciepts. My warranty ran out just this past November 15. The problem occured December 28. GM won't do the right thing because I failed to prove I maintained the engine correctly. Yeah I know, I know. It sucks because even if I had not changed oil for a whole year. It would not be enough for the chain to break. Those things are strong and intended to last the life of a 200,000 mile engine.

So. Anyway. I could pay GM $3600 to repair the problem. Or I could buy a rebuild and have it dropped in by a different shop for around $2500. So I am wondering who is a good good company to go to for engine rebuilds for the cobalt LS?

Of course I can't afford to get more than what I need but it would be cool to drop in a engine that was more powerful than the stock one. But then that may force a whole boat load of other changes that would be necessary.

Who would have thought that this dull looking car could actually be made to look pretty sharp. You all of done your Cobalts good.

These engine really hate low oil levels. That $2500 option looks about right to get it the way it was. But if you want to play with the big boys you're going to have to fork out some cash.

Yeah I won't be "playing with the big boys" unfortunately. 3 kids and and a wife take presedence over tooling around with toys.

It might be cheaper to go jasper IF you do the swap yourself. If not, then $2500 is a good estimate. I was looking at over $3k for just my bottom half rebuild of just my short block. And I would have to pull the engine and disassemble/reassemble, and drop engine back in. So $2500 is pretty good.
