Shift Knob Piece Fell Off

So I have an automatic and the little black piece on the shift knob fell off. It's the piece that must be depressed before you can shift. I'm not sure what caused it to fall off other than the fact that GM used crappy plastic pieces to assemble the interior of the Cobalts. Does any one know what this piece is called and where I can find a replacement to order?

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but there is absolutely no chrome in my car whatsoever. I've attached a photo just to clarify. The piece circled in red with three arrows pointing at it, has fallen off. I desperately need a replacement. Tired of cutting my hand on the plastic crap underneath it. The piece you may have been referring to is, in fact chrome in this picture, but in my car it is not.

Mine is chrome every where
I'm not sure you can buy that piece by itself, but if you take the knob off, it seems like it is just kinda pushed into a slot and can come out (been a while) so maybe you could fix what might have broke or buy a new knob.

Thanks a ton for the replies you guys, and that diagram is very helpful Coby. Now I'm off to find a shift knob! If any one knows of a good place to buy little parts like that for relatively cheap, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks again you guys!

So I just remembered my shift knob is rather different than the ones you guys have pictured. Mine has the little leather web thing that standards usually have, yet it's an automatic.

I think in 08 they put a boot on the automatics, might be 09 not 100% sure on year, but they do have shift boot for cobalt autos.
