Should Engine Light Stay on While Cranking the Motor

I have a quick question, I finally rebuilt my engine after it jumped timing and broke everything.

I tried to start it last night and while I was cranking the engine, my Engine Light was staying on. It didn't start, I think due to the fact my battery is too weak since it's been sitting on concrete for last 3 months so I'm going to go get a new on here in a few.

my question is, should the Engine Light be staying on while cranking until it turns on or does it go out as soon as you start cranking it. I just can't remember really

Yes light stays on until engine starts and ECM has checked all sensor readings.

Yes, the computer checks every sensor and actuator (except 02 sensors), once verified within programmed voltage reading, CEL will dissapear within 5 seconds after initial firing of engine.
