Question Rattle That Can Be Heard/felt in Steering Wheel

Hey guys, I bought my first Cobalt in August of 2012 and have had this issue since I bought it. I've read many threads about this problem and many say it's either the intermediate steering shaft or something in the steering column.

My question is: Is this a safety issue? I keep reading about people having these replaced many times and I don't want to constantly be throwing hundreds of dollars at this.

The rattle comes when driving slow on a bumpy road most of the time.

At first, it sounds like you have something wrong in your suspension, but if you mention that your steering is out of wack, they had a recall a few years back thats still in effect for electronic steering.

If you can pull the car left to right without any problem, then its either your suspension, rack&pinion, or brake rotors.

I'll try to get the VIN before I message you Crystal

Some extra info:
It's a 2005 base model cobalt.

The sound sort of sounds like something just rattling in the dash. I've seen it explained many times by others on this forum. It is usually noticed best when going between 0 - 25 mph.

Brakes and suspension all seem to be ok so I don't think it is those.

I think that's what it is as well because everything else seems to fine. Is this a real problem? or is it simply an annoyance?
