Top of Gas Tank is Leaking

Ok, so I recently noticed when I park the cobalt in the garage the garage smells like gas. I put the rear on ramps and seen there is a wet spot coming from the top of the gas can. I can't see where it is coming from from up top, too small of a gap from bottom of car and the top of the tank. But I can clearly see it is coming from up top. I can see the gas coming down on the front side and the rear side. I was thinking about removing the four bolts that hold the two straps that hold the tank up and put a jack under the tank to support it and lower a little to see if I can see what is going on...What do You think??

Also, I noticed my front passenger side halfshaft seal seeping a little. What should I look for right there to confirm it is the seal? If I pull the shaft, Does the seal come out easy?

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!!!

There is a recall on the fuel pump gas line leak.

https://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/rec...ar-2013-a.html

I assume you mean differential seal so yes that is an easy enough fix with proper tools. Pull the shaft, rip the old seal out and tap the new seal in, re-install shaft.

Yes, even if it is a silent recall.

I'm going to have to fix this myself. I already can play out what is going to happen. Im going to drop of the car, they going to tear it down. Then they going to find something wrong that isnt due to a recall and then now I have no choice but to pay them for the work they have already done. Or to go ahead and pay for the whole job that wasent related to the recall. 'm not going to know if it is recall realted untill they pull the gas tank down. And then to hope its some recall related. If its not then I have no choice but to pay them for pulling down gas tank. So, to cut all that hassle out. I will have to do this myself.

Just call a dealer with your vin...

---------- Post added at 08:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:06 AM ----------

Dealers can't fix anything without your permission. If they do, and try to charge you with it, then you can tell them you didn't want them to fix it. They will either keep the part there free of charge to save the hassle or replace with old part. And if somethings wrong that wasn't before, I'd sue
