Check Charging System - Dummy Light????

I was driving down the road the other day when my 2005 chevy cobalt ls sedan, took a shit on me. Electrical problem, rpms/gas/mph were going up and down dying out, power steering died, everything. I cant remember all the lights flashing, there were sooo many.

I had these warning lights:
battery saver on
check charging system

I had these symbols:
ABS
Battery
check engine (was on for 2 weeks prior to this happening)

luckily i was a mile away from home, and i made it home.

I got battery checked, battery died, took to autoshop it wouldnt charge. pulled alternator for the autoshop to check it, but they cant check alternators unless they are in a vehicle....which is useless because my car wont start. put alternator back in, put new battery in, left idle for 10 minutes, no lights, no warnings, left door open to let dome ligt drain from battery, not so much as a dim from it, running strong. get in car, take it for a spin around the neighborhood, and when im driving it, i get "check charging system" it stayed on for like a minute, and than stayed off for awhile while i still drove it, and would come back on a few times over the 20 minutes i drove it.
i had a/c on, radio, headlights on full, windshield wipers, nothing even dimmed, idk how long a new battery can run a car and all those accessories but i know its at least 20 minutes now. could this be a dummy light???

Your alternator brushes are finished. Removing it and banging it around made them touch a little to the armature. Don't wait until you ruin your new battery. Get an alternator it is what killed your first battery in the first place.

it wasnt removing and banging it around...because i was actually careful while doing this, took it to a friend who runs a shop he said it was at the end of its life, he got me an employee discount on a new one, paid $145. originally $187
