Fuse Block Problem

Hi there,

First time posting on this site and looking forward to more due to the wealth of knowledge that i'm reading. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.

I've read up on a number of posts regarding the fuze box replacement in order to fix the issue of headlights staying on after the car has been turned off. I've also seen some comments on relay's being replaced as well (I can't seem to find any on my 2008 Cobalt)

The question I had, before I purchase a new fuse block is this. I have removed the 10A fuses for all of the High and Low Beams and the lights still stay on. Am I to believe that this is ultimately the fuse block?


Any help would be great as I'm being quoted 315 from the dealership at this point.

If you pull those 4 fuses and your headlights stay on it's not the relays because the fuses are after the relays. Did you also pull the DRL fuse?

I pulled the DRL fuse and the lights went out. What do you suggest? Hopefully your next answer is save the $315........

Did you re-insert the 4 other fuses first? Looks like your DRL relay contacts have welded shut. You can either run without DRL or replace the underhood fuse block. You could always get one from a salvage yard.

I left the 4 fuses in while removing the DRL fuse and the lights went out. Sounds like a scrap yard will be on the list of calls today.

Do you have OEM headlamp assembly?

The DRL relay is soldered under the fuse block board so it's marked as a non serviceable item. But I'm sure I would have a go at it.

The car does have an OEM assembly yes. What are you thinking?

I have to take off the block anyway to put a new one on. Might as well try it.

Well you would need a donor fuse block to graft a relay from. I don't think they will be a regular relay. I don't imagine. I will try to get my hands on one tomorrow and check it out.
