Check gas cap warning lights?

Check engine lights on forever and there is a check gas cap message on the information center.
I Already replaced the cap with a dealer replacement .

I have done some research and from what I can tell I think maybe the evap purge may have failed constantly releasing the vapors into the engine therefore its loses the pressure from the tank and the sensor in the tank is blaming the cap as the problem ..

I'm gonna take the evap purge dohicky off and try and blow through it . What do you guys think ??

Thumbs up

I took my purge valve off and i could blow through it so I went to a salvage yard a pulled one off a wrecked cobalt.
I disconnected the battery and put it on mine and now its all good to go ...
No check engine light or check gas cap warnings ...
I even got a bonus at the junkyard . I found a two door cobalt with tinted side glass and took both sides for twenty dollars .... just put them in my car . I already did the little side windows months ago . Now all I need is my back one done .

Sweet . Thank everyone for the wealth of information here!!!

Update : check engine light came back
My question is could it just be showing up from the cars memory ?
Does it have to be earsed with a scan tool or should of disconnecting the battery cleared it ?? Just wondering why it came back I'm almost sure that purge valve was the fix because you could blow right through the one I had on the car

Any ideas or suggestions?

Codes should have been erased if you disconnected the battery. Is it the same code? It might be your fuel pressure sensor.

I'm gonna go to auto zone and have them read it . I had them read it before I attempted to fix it . All they told me was the check engine light was on for the gas cap . They didn't tell me any codes.
So today I am gonna ask for a code when they read it . I was thinking maybe its the pressure sensor as well . Where is that located at ? Coming off the charcoal canister?

It just sits halfway up to the right of the canister.

Should be one of these....

P0450 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Malfunction

P0451 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Range/Performance

P0452 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input

P0453 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor High Input

P0454 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Intermittent

I went to Autozone and had them read the codes and give them to me.

My conclusion is I fixed the evap problem .
But other problems were being stored while the check engine was on for the last year or so .

Here are the codes the check enige is throwing .

P1028

P1072

C0045

As for P1028 and P1072 they are not valid codes for a 2005 Cobalt. So you might just have a bad bearing.
