Zero Compression - Head Match Up Questions - ?

I just recently purchased a 2006 2.2L 2d cobalt. Previous owner (only owner) said the timing chain was broken. With various routes of affordable recovery, we bought it for cheap.

At this point we have the head off. Cannot see any scoring on the pistons, or the cylinders. We have yet to fully check the valves (mind you we just got it a couple hours ago), however I have a question for the possible future.

What other year heads would be applicable to the 2006 model (If we find it would be more convenient than getting the current one fixed, and re-machined)

Only 05-06 heads will match up correctly

Let me clarify, 05-06 cobalt 2.2 heads will match up. The 05 cavi will not work (I think that was the last year they made them), nor will the lsj or le5 head match up properly

Cobalt heads are VERY specific to the engine type.

You need the head with the coilpack and ignition module bolted to the head, I believe the ION kept this head an extra year.

I wouldn't even buy a new head, I would send that head in to be rebuilt and possibly planed down if need be.

Even if you get a used head it would be stupid to not get it checked to make sure its flat so you may as well just do the head you have.

Machining heads is cheap and while they are at it they can check the valves and re do the valve seats by lapping them. Wouldnt cost much at all

True story. Just sucks there's not much you can do to increase performance while its being worked on. I've read that the stock head is good for 400hp. Possibly plane the head down a little bit extra to raise compression ;)
