'06 Cobalt 2.2 Swap to '06 G5

Hi, I'm a dad who needs help. My son had his engine blow on his '06 Pontiac G5 coupe last night. I found an engine this morning from an '06 Cobalt. It's a 2.2 Ecotec, same as son's G5. The seller tells me to make sure it'll work... he says the power steering works off a cam, so this makes me wonder if it's the same. It's a great deal at 50k miles and only $500. Please help!

I thought all Cobalts had electric steering. Have you seen the donor car?

I thought so too. I haven't seen the engine yet, but apparently it's out of the car. Should be a straightforward swap, but what should I be aware of? Will the computer in son's car work with the Cobalt engine?

Someone is lying to you. Cobalts all came with electric steering. The cam driven power steering was in the ecotec cavaliers, never a cobalt

AHA! Then it's not an '06 Cobalt ecotec as he claims... it's from a Cavalier. Thanks guys, you just saved me $$$ and a big headache.

Rockraven,

Please let me know if you would like for me to email your son's vehicle build. You can private message me his VIN and your email address whenever you get the chance.
