Exhaust Gas Smell /Vent Solenoid

I have a 2006 Cobalt LS Auto store said I had a vent solenoid bad. I changed the gas cap cause it was worn out. Now it has gas fumes coming from the exhaust. I wanted to try putting the old gas cap back on but I've already tossed it.

The fuel pump is not the problem. I checked. Spark plugs are good.

Have you checked the gas tank to see if there is a crack in it I know some cobalts have a recall for a gas smell coming from the back of the car.
