Unhappy Cleaning the Throttle Body?

If I remove my throttle body to clean, is it safe to use carb cleaner? My other question is will it need to be reprogrammed if I take it off and clean it? What precautions should I take while removing it and cleaning it? I hate to mess my car up! I am a broke High school student!

^ also make sure you keep the key out of the ignition. I'm sure disconnecting the battery will take care of that but just to be safw

Don't spray the cleaner into the throttle body. It is better to moisten a rag and clean the inside and the plate. There is less danger of washing out the lubricants at either side of the butterfly and less danger of contaminating the throttle position sensor wipers.

And carburator cleaner is Okay to use.
